新幹線

In a flash. . . 
No.
Not really a flash.
It’s slower than that.
But it’s also faster than that. 
It’s less predictable
than a flash.
It’s more tangible
than a flash.

Sometimes,
if you breathe just right,
you can sit in a moment.
You can stretch time
but if you aren’t careful,
it snaps like a rubber band
and suddenly, it moves even faster --
moments hurling past
until you manage to snag another one
out of the air
and stretch it,
sit in it,
breathe slower,
soak it all in
before it starts to speed past again.

If you practice snatching moments
out of the air,
you will find them less elusive--
easier to catch--
easier to commune with--
a more natural part of your life.
And we need to catch these moments--
savor them--
hold them dear--
bathe in them--
becuase no matter how artful a time-catcher one becomes,
everything between those small moments you grab
is 新幹線.
